The Golden Eagle Festival is a yearly celebration of Kazakh eagle hunting traditions held in Bayan-Ulgii province in western Mongolia. This captivating event aims to showcase and preserve the unique cultural heritage of the Kazakh people for future generations. During the festival, eagle hunters demonstrate their remarkable skills as they use specially trained golden eagles to catch small animals like foxes and hares. The festival takes place from early September to early October, offering visitors a chance to explore the art of eagle hunting and capture stunning photographs.

Tsambargarav Mountain National Park features the ever-snowy Tsambagarav Mountain, located on the border of Khovd and Bayan-Ulgii provinces in Western Mongolia. Standing at an elevation of 4,208 meters, the summit is notably easier to reach than the taller Tavan Bogd, making it an appealing option for climbers. The ideal times to visit are from mid-June to late August. This untouched destination attracts few visitors, making it perfect for photographers, trekkers, horse riders, and mountaineers seeking solitude.

A unique way to immerse yourself in the lifestyle and traditions of the Mongolian people is to spend a few days homestaying with nomadic families. These nomads reside in gers, traditional round felt-covered dwellings that have been a staple of Central Asian nomadic life for centuries. During your stay, you can train golden eagles with the Kazakhs, help herders with their livestock, learn to make dairy products, migrate with nomads and even try your hand at throat singing with the Tuvans.

Khyargas Lake, situated in Uvs province, is a saltwater lake that spans an area of 1,407 square kilometers and extends 75 kilometers in length. The lake is surrounded by several springs and a few spa resorts that utilize its mineral water and mud for various health treatments. Adjacent to Khyargas Lake, about 5 kilometers to the south, lies a smaller lake known as Airag. Water from Airag Lake flows into Khyargas Lake through a canal that is 200-300 meters wide. On the eastern shore of Khyargas Lake, you’ll find a prominent rock cliff named Khetsuu Khad, which rises 20 meters above the water and stretches 5-7 kilometers in length, making it a haven for migratory birds.
