Winter Tourism Opening Event – Winter Horse Festival - 2025 Announced!

Now in its 11th year and being held for the 12th time, “Winter Horse Festival” marks the official opening of the winter tourism season in Mongolia. This event was initiated with the aim of preserving and promoting the horse-based culture that is an inseparable part of the history, traditions, and nomadic lifestyle of the Mongolian people.

Horses are an inseparable part of Mongolia and its people—they are deeply tied to the country’s roots, history, culture, and traditional way of life. Often called the land of horses, Mongolia offers countless horse-related experiences that reflect this strong heritage. One of the most remarkable among them is the Winter Horse Festival, an annual event that draws travelers, adventurers, photographers, media makers, riders, and horse lovers from around the world. This unique celebration takes place in Khentii Province, the historic homeland of “Chinggis Khaan”, located in eastern Mongolia.

10:00 Official opening of the “Winter Horse Festival- 2025" – The ceremony begins with a flag parade, followed by an elegant procession of riders in traditional Mongolian attire, mounted on beautiful horses with luxurious Batnorov-style tack. Distinguished guests are invited on stage, and the opening continues with cultural performances.
12:00 Children’s parade on horseback named “Udamt Mongol”
12:30 Horse color identification contest among guests
14:00 Contest to select the “Best Horseback Couple”
16:30 First round of the “Shurguu – 2025” competition
17:30 Untamed horse taming competition (wild bronco riding)
Drive back to Chinggis city

19:00 “Ballad of Setsen Khan” – Performance by the Khan Khentii ensemble of the Theatre
20:00 Public dance at the Kherlen soum Cultural Center
After dancing, back to hotel and relax
